This is a tower that the youth have the opportunity to climb every year when we go to camp, and I have always enjoyed watching and encouraging each one that overcomes their fear and tries to make it to the top. But I love the way that the designers have placed the cross right out in front; you can't miss it.
There are several ways to climb the tower from different sides but by far the most difficult approach is to try going up the cross...what a beautiful picture of Christ we can see in this; that He conquered the cross on our behalf, because no matter our level of talent or effort we cannot meet the requirement of the Father concerning our sin.
The starting point for the climber at camp is the base of the cross, and the starting point for you and I is the base of a cross also; the cross of calvary where Jesus died for our sins. He didn't climb the cross to overcome it, he allowed himself to be nailed to and lifted up between heaven and hell, accepting our punishment.
Living your life for Christ won't always be easy; Jesus had some pretty rough days too. Serving as a minister and working in the world is a challenge, but I wouldn't change a thing. When my days are tough I find comfort in knowing that if I only had good days then I wouldn't be following Christ, I'd be watching from a distance.
I'm so blessed to have Jesus in my life, the love and support of my wife and girls, a church familiy that prays for me, and I can say that I am thankful for the trials, and I'm thankful for you who are reading this. If life is beating you down, remember Jesus will lift you up, and if you feel like you're walking alone, give me a shout, I'll walk with you-me and Jesus that is.
And if you don't know Jesus as your Savior, take my hand, I'll introduce you to him, we can go to the cross together.

Sometimes we are faced with a bridge to cross; we look at the bridge before us today that the Lord is asking us to cross and it looks sturdy enough. It appears to be well made and shouldn't present any difficulties at all...except that to cross this bridge we have to move our feet.
The heart is willing, but if you look closely there is something different about the other side, although from where we stand we don't have a clear view of the destination we often hesitate, we're unsure, in reality we're just scared.
Maybe that bridge today is forgiveness toward someone who we aren't sure deserves it; maybe it's that step into service in the church in some small way' maybe it's the bridge that takes you from a life separated from God the Father to salvation that can only be found in the welcoming arms of Jesus, the one who died for you and me.
The step we never take will never lead us to the reality of what we haven't experienced, and it wil always leave us where we are... whatever you're struggle today, whatever the bridge before you, you are not alone. God challenged me, compelled me to cross the bridge almost 30 years ago, and what he reveals even as I write these words is beyond my greatest expectations, and today he is waiting to walk you across your bridge.

"Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known."
